The Name Is Misleading

A Printed Appliance, Not a Soft Guard

KeySplint Soft is a printed resin appliance with resilience in the material. It gives under load. What it is not is a thermoformed EVA soft guard — the squashy sports-guard-style tray a patient can fold in half. This is dimensionally a designed appliance, finished and delivered like one. It simply is not rigid.

Nor is it the soft layer inside a Comfort H/S nightguard: that is a laminate, a resilient liner against the teeth with a hard shell above carrying the occlusion. This is one printed material, resilient the whole way through.

Compliance Is Something You Can Verify

Prescribing for wear-time has a useful side effect: wear-time leaves evidence. At review the appliance tells you whether the decision worked, usually before the patient does. A guard that comes back pristine has answered your question — find out why before building another.

  • Seat and remove at delivery: Have the patient do it themselves. One they struggle to insert is one that stays in the case.

  • Mark and relieve contacts: Discomfort on night one is more often a fit problem than a hardness problem.

No, and the name causes real confusion. It is a printed resin appliance with resilience in the material, not a thermoformed EVA soft guard and not the soft liner of a dual laminate. Dimensionally it is a designed appliance. It simply is not rigid.
