We plan the reduction level against the CBCT and the planned prosthesis together, then define a flat, indexed surface the bur can follow. The point is a predictable vertical height across the whole arch, so everything restorative that follows fits the way it was designed to.

The reduction guide and the placement guide are indexed to the same references, so after the ridge is reduced the implant guide seats on the new bone level and the implants land where the plan put them.

Reduction guides are printed in biocompatible resin and designed with the fixation the case needs to stay stable while the ridge is reduced. Because the guide sits on bone during a phase where the reference teeth may be gone, its seating and fixation are planned as carefully as the reduction plane itself.

Every guide is checked against the plan and shipped as part of the sequence it belongs to, so the reduction guide, the placement guide, and any prosthetic components arrive as one coordinated set.

Bone Reduction Guides — Questions Dentists Ask

The prosthetic plan sets it. Vertical room for the hybrid, transition line, and occlusal scheme define how much bone must come off; the reduction guide encodes that plane on the CBCT. Surgery executes the plan rather than discovering prosthetic space after fixtures are placed.

They are designed as a stack: fixation and reduction first, then implant placement on the reduced ridge with shared landmarks so the placement guide still seats where planning put it. That coordination is the point of designing both from the same merged CBCT and scan — not improvising reduction and hoping the implant guide still fits.

Full arch case planning

Send the intended definitive prosthesis type — acrylic on titanium, monolithic zirconia hybrid, bar overdenture — and any duplicate denture or wax-up that shows tooth position and occlusal vertical. Implant system and platform still matter for what follows reduction. Without that prosthetic target, the reduction plane is a guess.
