A Printed Denture Base, Within a Validated System

Lucitone Digital Print is a denture base resin system from Dentsply Sirona built specifically for 3D printed dentures. Working inside a validated system means the material, the print, and the post-processing protocol are designed to go together — which is exactly what you want from a printed prosthesis.

We design the denture in CAD from your records, print the base in Lucitone denture base resin, and finish it to the system's protocol. Base shades and tissue characterization are available within the system, so the prosthesis reads well at the base and not just the teeth.

  • Archived design: A duplicate or replacement is printed from the same file rather than rebuilt from fresh records.

  • Tissue-borne: Like any complete denture — the base material changes here, not the biomechanics.

The denture is designed against your scans and records, printed in the Lucitone base resin, and post-processed to the manufacturer's protocol — the step that determines whether a printed prosthesis reaches its intended properties. Fit and occlusion are checked before delivery.

Before you plan

Like any complete denture, this is tissue-borne — the base material changes here, not the biomechanics. If the patient's real problem is a lower denture that will not stay seated, implants are the answer, not a different resin.

When Lucitone Digital Is the Right Call

Indicated for

  • Complete dentures where a premium printed denture base is the goal
  • Practices already working digitally who want a validated, brand-supported printed workflow
  • Cases where base esthetics — shade and tissue characterization — are a priority
  • Patients likely to need a duplicate, since the printed design is archived
  • Digital denture cases where a printed base suits the plan better than a milled one

Consider an alternative when

  • A milled base from a puck is preferred for the case — see digital dentures for the milled route
  • The case is esthetically demanding and a full conventional wax try-in sequence is wanted
  • The clinical problem is retention on a resorbed lower ridge — implants are the answer, not the base material
  • Records cannot be captured reliably in digital form

Sending a Lucitone Digital Case

We accept scans from all major intraoral systems, including iTero, 3Shape, and Medit — and can digitize conventional impressions where you are not scanning edentulous arches yet.

Include with the case:

  • Intraoral scans of both arches, or impressions we can digitize
  • Jaw relation records — vertical dimension and centric relation
  • Tooth mold and shade, plus your preferred base shade
  • Whether you want a printed try-in before the definitive
  • Facial photos where esthetics or lip support matter

Lucitone Digital Dentures — Questions Dentists Ask

Both are designed in CAD and archived as a file, but the base is produced differently. Lucitone Digital Print is a printed denture base resin system with its own validated workflow and base shades; a milled digital denture is cut from an industrially polymerized PMMA puck. Neither is universally better — we recommend against your case rather than pushing a single route.

Scans of both arches — or impressions we digitize — with jaw relation records establishing VDO and centric, plus tooth mold, shade, and preferred base shade. The printed workflow does not relax the requirements on records; jaw relation accuracy is still what the case rests on. Tell us if you want a printed try-in before the definitive.

Often yes when esthetics or VDO is uncertain. Printed workflows are efficient, and whether you include a try-in stage affects the appointment schedule. A complete, clean set of records avoids a clarification round either way.

Lucitone offers a set of validated base shades within its print system — note your preferred base shade with the case. If a shade is critical to match an existing opposing or prior denture, send a photo or the old denture as a reference.

That is the right early conversation. Ridge condition, esthetic demands, and the patient’s history with dentures decide the route. Tell us those up front and we will advise before the case starts rather than after a remake.
